COFC top the tables - twice!
June 15
Accompanied by a fly past from the Red Arrows, Clapton Orient's U12 Girls won big in their last match of the season so secure top spot in the Hackney Marshes Girls U12 league. Matches have been fast and furious this season, with some great talent on display from all the teams and our girls did a fantastic job to keep their composure and finish the season on top.
And they weren't the only ones! COFC's U16 Boys also finished top of the table this season after a hard-fought campaign. With GCSE exams for many of our players this year, the team have done exceptionally well to balance their studies and their commitments on the pitch.
What a way to close the season, with number one positions for both our Boys and Girls. A massive thank you to their coaches for giving up their time for extra training and to all the officials and organisers who make the Hackney Marshes leagues happen each year.
COFC U12 Girls Secure Crucial Win
May 12
Last Saturday saw our U12 Girls team win 3-1 v's Nutmeg, earning vital points with just one match of the season left to play.
All the players worked really hard to prepare for this match, with their extra training beforehand clearly paying off. They also listened to their coaches and put all the feedback and learning from previous matches into action.
With such a concerted effort across the team they are all our Players of the Match this week, well done girls! It was also really special to see so many of their friends from our other teams and their families there to cheer them on. Support from the sidelines is always welcome and made it a day to remember.
We're all hoping the U12s can finish the season off in style - go on the O's!
COFC Girls Get Back After the Break
April 22
Well-rested after a break for the Spring school holidays, our COFC Girls U11s and U12s got back to their league matches this Saturday with two hard-fought 0-0 matches.
The U11s were up against Los Campos, a team who we have lost to heavily previously, and did really well to keep the score to 0-0. A last-minute chance almost tipped the balance in our favour but it wasn't meant to be. Better luck next time girls!
With just a few matches left this season, please do try to make it along to Mabley Green on Saturdays if you can to cheer for the O's!
Well Done COFC U10 and U12 Girls
March 16
Two comfortable wins for two our Girls' teams v's Coppermill Swifts this Saturday.
The U10s won 4-1, with Iris B scoring all four of the team's goals. Tova was our Player of the Match for her tenacity and composure.
The Girls U12s won 3-1, with two goals for Taijah and one for Mabli. Aine was Player of the Match, excellent in defence in the first half adn unstoppable on the left wing in the second.
Saturday saw really good performances all round, with a special shout-out to Eri, who stepped up a year to help out the U12 team and impressed everyone with her fearless tackling and incessant running.
Clapton Orient in Action
March 2
Three matches this Saturday, with COFC Girls and Boys teams in action.
With GCSEs rapidly approaching, our Boys U16s had several players out at Saturday school and as a result were decisively beaten by Voice FC 9-0.
The Girls U11s lost as well, in a very closely-fought game against Badu. Iris B scored a fantastic goal, striking the ball right into the bottom left corner. Iris A was Player of the Match for her assured performance in defence. She was strong in the tackle, read the game well, showed great control of the ball and passed out from the back to her team.
The Girls U12s dominated in their match against Frenford and won decisively 4-0. Aine had a brilliant long range shot, with Taijah, Mabli and Neva'Jah joining her as scorers. Along with a cracking goal into the top corner, Neva'Jah made a couple of great saves in the first half, making her our Player of the Match.
A fantastic effort from all our teams, well done everyone!
Rain, rain go away - we'll play anyway!
March 2
Sadly rain stopped play for our U12 Girls this week, with a hotly anticipated match against the other team at the top of the table postponed due to water-logged pitches.
Luckily the astro at Mabley Green held up and it was another victory for our U10s, who beat CPA Wolves 3-0. Great teamwork helped our defence, with Safi and Martha both making some great saves. Rose was the first to score, with Iris adding another two goals and securing Player of the Match this week.
The U11s battled hard against a strong and powerful Tiangoals team. Theodora was excellent in defence and Lila showed great skills on the ball but it was Eri who was player of the match for yet another all-action performance. Special mentions to Dixie and Gaia, who both bravely took a turn in goal.
As always, a massive thank you to the coaching team, parents and officials who help make these matches happen, rain or shine!
Two spectacular U10s and U11s games
February 24
Two great games for our supporters to watch on Saturday, with some thrilling moments from both teams.
Our U10s beat the Tigers 5-4 in a thrilling seesaw game that saw everyone in our squad take their turn on the pitch. Too many great moments to describe them all in detail but special mentions for Rose, who scored a great long-range goal, and Iris B, who scored four goals and was our Player of the Match.
The U11s were unlucky to lose 6-4 to Nutmeg, after a stunning performance in the second half. Going into half-time 5-0 down against an accomplished opposition team, our girls listened carefully to their coach and dug deep to score four and keep Nutmeg to just one more goal in the second half. Given three of our six players were from the U10 squad, this was a great result. Shout outs to Mia in goal, particularly her long throws, Theodora, who was a rock at the back, Bette, working tirelessly at right wing, Eri, who played through heavy challenges, and Iris B, who scored our first goal. Player of the Match was Rosie, who scored a hat trick!
Great games for our COFC Girls
February 16
Last weekend saw some excellent play from three of our Girls teams, who didn't let the drizzle dampen their spirits.
Our U15/U16 Girls were excited to take on East London Ladies in a friendly and won 4-3. Viola was our player of the match, scoring two great goals.
It was a heavy defeat for our U11 team v's Los Campos, however Iris B scored a fantastic goal and Martha was player of the match for her courageous goalkeeping.
The U10s played earlier in the morning, losing 4-3 to Ryan FC in a very close game indeed. Iris B scored two goals and Marion was our player of the match after bravely playing the second half with a sore shoulder and battling hard to help her team.
We saw some true COFC resilience and team spirit in all the matches, great work girls!
What a weekend!
January 28
Introducing our Early Years Girls' Squad
January 20
Our four league teams had a busy weekend, with some real grit and determination on display all round.
The U16 boys scored a late penalty, bravely taken by their captain, Fergus, which earned them a 1-1 draw against Just Play.
The U12 girls notched up a 2-1 win against Coppermill Swifts, with Rosa scoring a very late winner after Coppermill had equalised against the run of play.
The U11 girls worked hard but lost 2-1 to East London Ladies. With true COFC spirit they all enjoyed the game and are looking forward to meeting them again.
The U10 girls won 10-0 against Coppermill Swifts, with our top-scorer Iris B putting in an amazing six goals!
Thanks go as ever to all the coaches and referees who help make these matches happen.
Our COFC Girls' teams have been so popular that we have introduced a new squad for girls currently in Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4.
If you'd like to give football a try, come along on Saturday mornings at 9:00am and join one of our training sessions.
You'll find us on Millfields Park South, near the cricket pitch. Training sessions are free and it's fine to wear trainers to start with.
Well done to our U10 Girls
December 2
It may’ve been freezing on Saturday but that didn’t put off our U10 girls, who took on Ryan Youth FC for a last-minute friendly and won 4-1.
Both teams played really well, bringing all their enthusiasm to the field despite the cold weather. For COFC, Safi was super-reliable in goal as usual and Marion did some great defending in her first proper match. Iris J was always in the right place to make the right tackle at the right time and Iris B was a stellar goal-scorer, putting all four goals in the net.
Player of the match for COFC was Rosie, who marked well and consistently took the ball off the other team’s best players. Well played everyone!
Growing Walking Football in Hackney
November 24
Walking football is a great way to enjoy football and build your fitness. The game is similar to standard small-side football, but without the running - making it easier on your knees! We’re delighted to welcome Dave King, Walking Football Manager, and our first walking football squad to Clapton Orient.
The squad trains every Sunday at 11:00am on North Millfields (across from the playground) and is open to men and women aged 55 and above. There’s no need to have any previous experience of playing football or to buy any special equipment – just wear comfy clothes and trainers.
If you want to have a go, let us know you’re planning to come along by registering your interest here. Looking forward to seeing you next Sunday!
Supporting football at Clapton Girls
November 15
We're delighted that COFC Head Coach, Guy Humphreys, is going to be working with the team at Clapton Girls Academy to help them encourage new players into the game and develop the sport as part of their offer to pupils.
This is part of an initiative across Hackney that is aiming to help more young people into football by sharing skills and experience across coaches and teaching staff.
